The Production of Sound
Sound is produced by a source which is in a state of vibration. Energy is therefore required for the production of sound.
Waves of Sound
- Sound energy moves through a medium as a longitudinal wave. This means that the particles will experience areas of compression and rarefaction.
Interference
- A compression wave can meet another compression wave and result in a greater compression resulting in a louder sound. This is as a result of constructive interference. A compression and a rarefaction wave will result in destructive interference and the sound will be softer.
