Refraction

• The higher the temperature of the air the less the density and therefore the higher the speed of sound resulting in greater refraction
• Sound waves are refracted when into an area of different density

The higher the temperature the greater the speed of sound. This means that on a cold night there is a layer of cooler air close to the ground which reduces the speed of sound.
