Interference of Waves
When two waves pass through a medium simultaneously, particles of the medium vibrate with combined amplitude
of the waves. This is called interference. At places where the waves arrive in phase, (two crests or two troughs) the particles have maximum amplitude and the interference is constructive. Where the waves arrive in
opposite phase ( a crest and a trough) the particles have zero amplitude and the interference is destructive. Such places are referred to as nodes.
