Objectives

Mamelodi Broadband E-Learning Pilot Project

Objectives for the 3 Month Trial Period

The project aims to demonstrate:

  • The physical connectivity of five schools in the Tshwane area using the Motorola Canopy product.
  • A limited number of training sessions will be provided to 2 staff and 4 students per school. This will be in the form of basic IT training as well as the use of the network. Each group will receive approximately 20 hours of training.
  • The sharing of lesson material, primarily Grade 10 Science, across the network. This will include
    • existing material available on the College Web Page
    • material generated with the use of the SmartBoard during normal lessons
    • the distribution of live lessons across the network with interactive feedback
    • extra Science lessons scheduled in the afternoons on a regular basis
  • Access will be provided to all other learning material available on the College Laptop web page.
  • All teachers will be encouraged to establish virtual exchanges across the network.
  • Cultural lounges for pupils to interact with each other on an informal basis.
  • The inclusion of all schools as part of Theme Days. This will include the possibility of a small team of pupils from St Alban’s facilitating the process at each of the schools where possible.
  • All schools will be registered with the Formula One in Schools Project. Virtual and face-to-face workshops will be established to encourage as many pupils to get involved.
  • Subject meetings across all schools will be encouraged for the exchange of ideas.
  • The backbone will provide the platform for other projects/processes to be tested and not necessarily restricted to Grade 10 Science.
