The Mamelodi Broadband E-Learning Pilot Project will be considered a success if:
- permanent radio communications can be established between the five schools as part of a virtual Connected Learning Community
- a significant number of pupils use email on a weekly basis to communicate between the schools
- a significant number of teachers use email on a weekly basis to communicate
- teachers and pupils regularly access the Ulwazi project web page and the internet for general information relating to education
- successful Theme days are conducted between the five schools
- Pupils are able to drop into each school in a virtual mode to get a different perspective on daily life in other schools
- Grade 10 pupils are able to participate in Science lessons, be able to access the lesson material via the web and to receive additional lessons via the network
- Teachers are able to participate in virtual staff meetings in at least 5 different subject areas
- The broader educational community are able to access information pertaining to the project
Other facts
- all schools will be encouraged to keep their computer centres open for as long as possible to ensure free access to this valuable resource for both staff and pupils
- Where possible schools will be encouraged to establish community projects to provide basic IT training and support and to generate essential income for the centre
- Pupils from the Mamelodi schools will be encouraged to take responsibility for the running of the computer centres to create a greater sense of ownership and more effective use of the investments.
Theme Days
- Dates to be advertised
- Grade to be identified
- Support must be provided to all Ulwazi schools in the form of pupils from St Alban' College being present at each venue on the actual day
- All principals are to be kept informed of all details relating to the dates and procedures for Theme Days
- All coordinators at the individual schools are to be briefed in terms of procedures and expectations for these events
- The CLC coordinating committee at St Alban's College have been briefed to include schools from the Ulwazi project for future Theme Days
